Redcap, a little dragon design based on a few of my favorite flying creatures (bats, owls, nightjars, Anurognathid pterosaurs).
Roughly crow-sized, these crepuscular hunters readily pursue anything that will fit in their mouths. A strong bite force allows the exceptionally skilled to kill creatures of equal size on the wing, and they’ve even been known to pluck the occasional chunk of flesh out of larger creatures either too slow or too large to dislodge them.
As such few people hold them in high esteem, most townsfolk considering them pests to livestock and dangerous to travelers caught asleep on the road. Some however will extol their virtues as providers of pest control and cheerful song during the hours when few true birds are willing to sing.
